This is the method of custom-cutting out the parts of a barn in which each post, beam and brace is cut and numbered to fit in one specific place. They are not interchangeable and rely on marriage marks to identify where they fit. This method was replaced by Square Ruling about 1815 as a result of the industrialization of building methods.</br>
